It’s truly a privilege to guide clients through their real estate journeys, and one of the things I value most is their comfort and confidence in the process. Very often, as we begin, clients will mention they have a good friend or relative who will be helping them along the way. And to that, I always say: fantastic! If you have a trusted advisor by your side, I am more than happy to collaborate with them. We’re all on the same team, working towards your success.
However, sometimes a challenge can arise. While the intent is always positive, that well-meaning advisor might not be fully up-to-date on what’s happening right now, or right here, in the current real estate market. Perhaps their last experience buying or selling was a while ago, or in a completely different geographic area. What was true then, or true elsewhere, might not apply to your situation today. This can inadvertently create additional stress and confusion for you, the client, when clarity and current information are most needed.
Why Local, Current Knowledge Matters Most
If you’re in the market to buy or sell real estate, I urge you to consider the immense value of having a trusted professional who deeply understands your specific market, right now.
Think about it: real estate markets are incredibly dynamic. They shift based on geography, economic factors, and, crucially, time. What’s happening in one neighborhood might be entirely different from another just a few miles away. And what was true last year, or even last quarter, might have evolved significantly.
Receiving advice that isn’t grounded in current, local realities can unfortunately lead to misinformation. And poor information, no matter how well-intentioned, can hinder your ability to make wise, informed decisions that are critical to your financial well-being and overall satisfaction.
Balancing Trusted Advice with Expert Insight
I would never, for a moment, discourage you from seeking counsel from a trusted friend or relative. Their support and perspective are invaluable. My gentle suggestion is simply this: when you receive advice, take a moment to weigh it against two key factors:
- Their Proximity to Your Deal: How familiar are they with the nuances of your specific local market today?
- The Time Since Their Last Deal: How recently did they navigate a real estate transaction, and how much has the market changed since then?
By doing so, you can ensure that you’re combining the comfort of trusted relationships with the precision of up-to-the-minute, local market expertise. My goal is always to empower you with the best possible information so you can achieve your real estate goals confidently and successfully.
